CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Elysium Studio Pilates has a variety of classes to suit everyone. Whether you are here for a full-body conditioning workout or a high energy fat buring workout, we’ve got everything you need in one studio.

  • Reformer Classes |           Elysium uses state of the art Rialto Reformers that are designed with today’s group reformer classes in mind. There are 4 classes styles to choose from.
  • Semi-Private Sessions | Whether you are returning from an injury or surgery, have a pre-existing conditions or illnesses, or those that prefer a more personalised approach over group classes.
  • Circuit Style Classes |      Come and try one of our great circuit style classes. There are 3 classes styles to choose from | Sculpt, MEGA Sculpt & R&B (a Reformer & Barre fusion).
  • Pre & Post Natal|               Canberra’s leading provider of pre & post natal pilates.
  • Matwork Classes |             Where it all started. Elysium offers both a 4 week Beginners Mat term and intermediate classes.

REFORMER | ESSENTIALS


Don’t be fooled, our Essentials class isn’t EASY! This class focuses on fundamental Pilates principles, functional movement and refining your technique on the Reformer. Qualified Pilates Instructors will help you with your form to “get the move right” and leave with leaner and longer muscles as well as being sore in places you didn’t even know existed. This class is suitable for all levels and recommended for those who are new to the reformer, as well as anyone just wanting a quick refresher on certain exercises.

REFORMER | FLOW


Our Flow reformer class is open to everyone and is a step up from our Essential Classes. The tempo is moderate and focuses on a steady flow – with coordinated movements, balance and stability challenges to give you a more demanding workout.

 

 

 

REFORMER | TOTAL BODY


Build on the foundations learnt in Elysium’s Reformer Essentials! These classes focus on technique enhancement, layering progressions and increasing strength by building resistance with more complex movements. Pilates props such as overball, magic circle and bands add a new dimension to these reformer classes. As a general guide 2-3 Reformer Essential classes are a prerequite as it is important you understand the basics before you go in to this class. If in doubt check with your Instructor!

SEMI-PRIVATE SESSIONS


These small group sessions allow your instructor to provide individually tailored exercises, allowing you to work at your level and progress at your pace. The close guidance and tailored service in a small group session is a fun and effective way to significantly increase your strength, flexibility, balance and stability. These sessions are capped at a maximum of four clients per instructor.

INTRO TO PILATES


(Pre-req for all new Semi-Private Clients)

This 45 min class is a prerequisite for all new and inexperienced clients who will be doing semi-private classes. In this session your instructor will go through some basic principles of Pilates. This will include proper breathing techniques to assist your movements, how to activate your core muscles properly, awareness of proper alignment and learning mind to muscle connection while you move. We will then guide you through some basic exercises so you can apply everything you learned. After this session you will be ready to enter a regular semi-private class.

PRIVATE SESSIONS


Personal pilates programs are designed to suit your specific goals and requirements. This session is provides a more intimate and specialized workout, designed for people with injuries, concerns or specific needs.If you are new to Pilates a great way to introduce yourself to the principles of Pilates is through a private session. These Pilates technique are designed to tone, re-align and reshape the body developed by Joseph Pilates.You will form an awareness of your own body’s strengths and weaknesses and exercises are done on specially designed apparatus to both strengthen and lengthen muscles. All exercises can be modified for specific bodies or injuries.

  SCULPT


Sculpt is Elysium’s signature all-in-one class. Results are best achieved through regular attendance at these classes, as exercises progress and are built upon each week. It combines strength, endurance and stretch in a full-body conditioning workout for every level in a circuit style. Designed to burn fat and increase energy using a variety of equipment including the Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Reformer, Barrels, and other specialty Pilates props.

  MEGA SCULPT


Mega Sculpt takes Elysium’s signature Sculpt class to the next level. Longer class times and more exercises will definitely add a new challenge to your Pilates routine. Of course the music will be pumping – what a great start to the week!

 

 

SCULPT FiiT (currently unavailable)


Pilates with a difference! Elyse has always wanted to combine her background as a certified fitness trainer with her love of Pilates! She will help you take your Pilates to the next level with 16 rounds at multiple stations, Scuplt FiiT is a fusion of strength, HIIT, stability and core training. They are designed to burn fat and increase energy without sacrificing great Pilates form. Get ready to work every muscle group and elevate your metabolism in this insanely fun, high-energy class (we recommend taking five Sculpt classes to familiarise yourself with Pilates techniques and form before progressing into this class).

R&B (Reformer & Barre)


Who doesn’t love R&B! This class is a fusion of Reformer and Barre workouts incorporating elements of dance and Pilates to create a fun-filled workout that strengthens and lengthens the body, improves balance, posture and flexibility while increasing your heart rate. A fun workout set to a great soundtrack.

Note: Don’t stress you don’t need to have any dance, ballet or Pilates experience! No tutus required!

FIT 2 DELIVER


The prenatal classes will use a variety of Pilates equipment, props and light weights, as well as your body weight, to help keep you comfortable whilst challenging your body.

Prenatal exercises will strengthen and stretch weakened and tight muscle groups that occur as a result of postural changes and other stresses to the body that occur during pregnancy. As back and hip pain tends to increase during pregnancy, maintaining deep abdominal muscles, back muscles and pelvic floor muscles is key for pain management.

BABY + YOU


Baby + You Postnatal Pilates circuit classes are for new mothers who are looking to regain overall muscle tone and strength after birth. They are designed to focus on reducing and improving any abdominal muscle separation issues, working on improving pelvic floor function and core stability and restoring your body back to its optimum and assisting to reduce any abdominal muscle separation.

These classes are run in a circuit format with each participant rotating through a variety of exercises however modifications can be made if necessary.

BEGINNERS MATWORK


This eight-week beginner mat course is for people who have never tried Pilates before, or those who’ve had a substantial break from the practice. In these classes we focus on flexibility, core strength, balance and mobility and is great for anyone in general good health. You will learn and practice specialised Pilates mat exercises while under guidance from our qualified Instructors.

CONTINUING MATWORK


Our intermediate mat classes are for those who have attended the beginners matwork term or have previous Pilates experience. We take it up a notch with more challenging exercises and at times other Pilates equipment are used for a strong abdominal and core focus. These classes are aimed at building and strengthening primarily the core muscles but the whole body too!

FOR DANCERS
Strength Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Pre-pointe assessments


Elysium Studio Pilates is a leading provider of strength conditioning and rehabilitation for dancers of all dance genres in Canberra. Elyse combines her knowledge and experience in both dance and Pilates to provide this service to dancers. Elyse understands that dance places unique stresses on the body over many other sports and has a thorough knowledge of dance technique and the types of injuries dancers are prone to. Treatment techniques include specific exercise programs and core stability which help to facilitate a return to normal activity.

These sessions are perfect for: who have suffered from a recurrent injury to any part of their body; wanting to improve their technique, balance and core stability; or who are commencing pointe work (pre-pointe assessment)

RHYTHM 4 DANCERS


Like dancing, Pilates is a whole-body workout, focusing on strength, mobility, endurance, body alignment and breath control. Specially created by a dancer for young dancers (13-17 years) to produce a uniform and very deep strength and tone, without using heavy weights. The bonus is that it also helps prevent injury and reduce stress and young growing bodies. Numbers are strictly limited to ensure that individual attention is given to each person.

 

 

“Group classes, including our Mat Pilates classes or Reformer classes, run for 45 minutes and do not require an initial assessment. Beginners through to experienced clients are more than welcome to join in, as long as there are no current injuries.”
